The White House was burnt down by forces, perhaps mainly Canadian, but undoubtedly under British command. Bragging about burning down our capital in revenge for us burning down your capital doesn't seem all that worthwhile.

The War of 1812 like most wars was waste. Many people died, historical artifacts were destroyed, and the whole sordid affair ended with a stalemate.
