I think part of our problem last night was that the low levels really should just tag along. There are certain enemies that shouldn't be meleed below a certain level. This is because you are doing much less damage than the TP move that the enemy is going to do because you're hitting it. I think that cactuar was one of them. He was doing 1000 needles about every five to ten seconds.
The next mission also sounds like one of them. Probably the best way to do the next mission is for Mayous to hold hate while Kolob and I nuke the skelly to death. If we can find a high level MNK to help out, that would probably make it trivially easy. If lower levels are meleeing it, it'll AoE drain more often which will probably make it impossible to kill.
Just a lesson to keep in mind.
