We had a little discussion about this yesterday. I figured I'd add a little poll on the forum.
Respond assuming you are drinking without a meal.

First I must say that I really don't drink all that much soda, but I must say that I feel I have a much more refined palate that most when it comes to sodas/pops/cokes/soda-pops.
In general, I prefer the sweetness of Pepsi over the higher carbonation levels of Coke. However, I find that Coke goes much better with Pizza and other foods with a large tomato base. Pepsi is sublime with hamburgers and chicken. Some foods are about equally good with both.
In recent years, both companies have been releasing a variety of variants on their mainstays. I will say that Pepsi Vanilla is massively superior over Vanialla Coke, but Coke with Lime trumps out Pepsi's offering.
Regularly I would never drink Diet sodas saying, "Why drink sugar water without the sugar, if I can just drink water?" However, I recently tried Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper on a whim and found it intriguing. If the makers of Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper are reading this, I would like to urge them to come out with a non-diet version.
Please share your thoughts because I truly believe that soda/pop/coke/soda-pop drinking habits are a microcosm of American culture and therefore life in general.

The point you seem to be missing is, as Berke Breathed pointed out, that they both taste like malted battery acid
