Sounds like they knew what to do the whole time. If you don't know, milk neutralizes the acid in hot peppers and water spreads it around without neutralizing it. If they hadn't known to use milk, they may have tried to flush it out with water and would have surely ended up in the hospital. I think the moral of the story is to stay calm in the face of excruciating groin pain.
